Club Facilities

All club facilities are available for use by Club members provided they have met the requirements for use.

All Club ranges have been inspected (2007) and approved by the Chief Firearms Office.

 Clubhouse

Our clubhouse is approximately 450 sq. ft. in area. It has a refrigerator and sink in a small food preparation area. The indoor range is attached, but is locked separately. The clubhouse is available to members for social gatherings.

REMEMBER YOU MUST PASS THE RANGE QUALIFIER COURSE IN ORDER TO USE ANY OF THE RANGES BY YOURSELF. In fact, the only way to get a key to the gate and clubhouse is to pass the qualifier. Several qualifiers have been held, but more will be given when necessary. Notices will be sent to members by e-mail. If you are not a member, but are thinking about joining, please contact us using our Contact Us page.

20 Metre Indoor Range

The indoor range is fully baffled and heated. It has 5 firing positions for standing events which can be converted into 4 prone firing positions.

The common target return can be set for 10m or 20m shooting. Overhead directed lighting at either position provides excellent target illumination.

We have just completed some upgrades to the range to reduce the hazard associated with lead contamination and to brighten up the firing line and staging area.

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT THE OUTDOOR RANGES:

The club must adhere to The Corporation of the Township of Huron-Kinloss "NOISE CONTROL BY-LAW, 2005-101" and the "2006-113 AMENDMENT" to the bylaw. This bylaw allows outdoor shooting from one half hour prior to sunrise until one half hour after sundown, except on Sundays when shooting cannot start until 10:00 AM*.

*NB: The KNC Constitution, Art. 5, Sec. 8, restricts the start of Sunday shooting to 11:00 AM.

25 Metre Outdoor Range

The 25 metre outdoor range is used for pistol and rifle sports. It was almost entirely rebuilt in 2007 to meet the latest Firearms Legislation. The target area was enclosed with new revetments, rocks were removed and fill added where necessary. 10 metre markers  were added, the Safe Area was redesigned and improved and new Range Rules are posted.

In Sep 09 the berms were hydroseeded to stabilize the soil and hopefully eliminate the need for climbing the berms to collect rocks.

100 Metre Outdoor Range

The 100 metre range is completely separate from the 25 metre range. It can also be used for 25 & 50 metre shooting. Similar improvements were made to this range as those made on the 25 metre range.

In Sep 09 the berms were hydroseeded to stabilize the soil and prevent  rocks and large stones from surfacing. In addition, the floor of the range was covered with over 6" of wood chips to again eliminate the appearance of large stones which could represent a hazard of ricochet.

TRAP RANGE

The Trap Range can be illuminated for night use within the prescribed hours for outdoor shooting. The range now has an automated thrower.

ARCHERY RANGES

The club uses 3 archery ranges. Broadhead arrows are allowed only on the range on the club property, which is pictured here. The club also has a target arrow range on another property. In the winter, club members can shoot at the Davidson Centre.

Again, only qualified club members and their guests are allowed to use these ranges, with the exception of the Davidson Centre.
